Science In Your Way - Atmosphere

The whole mass of air surrounding the Earth is the real definition of atmosphere. And also it's taken as the layer of air surrounding the Earth is called the atmosphere. The atmosphere  extends to about 600 kilometers above the surface of the Earth. The atmosphere is full of many gases. Most of it is nitrogen.

Other gases are oxygen  and carbon dioxide. There is also water vapour.  Above the atmosphere is space. There is no air in space. There is more air close to the surface of the Earth. Higher up there is less air. Some mountains are over 8000 meters high. There is very little air at that height. As a planet of the solar system Earth is the only one with an atmosphere that can sustain life.
