The Story of the Christmas Tree

The evergreen tree was an ancient symbol of life in the midst of winter. The Christmas tree as we all know plays a very important role at Christmas. When the Christmas comes these trees will be decorated with tinsels and various other decorations including gifts, which will be placed under the tree for children to open with delight. But why does the Christmas tree play such an important role? What is its history?

The Christmas tree which has the ability to stay green all year through, holds a special meaning for the West where the winter is strong. It is this endurance and steadfastness that began to play a big role in the festivities of Christmas.

It is said that the Christmas tree developed in medieval Germany from a tree called the " Paradise tree" which is said to be a type of evergreen. The first Christmas tree in the United States is further said to have been used in the early 1800s by German settlers in Pennsylvania. But at this time the trees had no decorations on them and were either hung from the corner of the living room. It is only a century later that the light and decoration was added to it. And as the time went by people started quite innovative with their way of making their glitter. It is further said that in this century the Christmas tree is the centre of life in every village and German judges were said to have pronounced judgments over the Christmas tree. However a decorated Christmas tree may be incorporated in the Nacimiento or set up elsewhere in the home.
