MAHASAMAYAMA OPERA 
The inaugural performance of Prof. Ariyarathne Athugala's stage drama "Mahasamayama" (a story depicting the famous Sri Lankan legend "Mahason Samayama") deals with the legend in which the character of "Mahasona", a devil who has a bear's head emerged. The legend highlights several main characters like Ishwara(Shiva), Umayangana, Vishnu, Bashmasura, Mahasona, Sona Queen and Gotaimbara. It is described in the legend as to how the "Mahasona" got a bear's head. As a result of a duel between "Mahasona" and Gotaimbara he has lost his head with a kick given by Gotaimbara and later it had been refixed with a bear head.
