53.D. J. Wimalasurendra
Devapura Jayasena Wimalasuremdra was born on September 17, 1874 in Galle. he got his education at Ananda College. In his school days he showed great aptitude in math’s and science.
At the beginning of the last century he was able to become an engineer. In 1901 He started his career as an engineer in the department of public works. In 1927 he was appointed as the chief engineer in the electrical department He carried out experiments about me possibilities of establishing hydro power stations in the country. He knew that Sri Lanka was fortunate to have rivers and Mahaweli Ganga is the greatest asset to generate electrify. his dream came true when Laxapana hydro electric power station was established. This project was electric power station was established. This project was based on the studies made by him. He died in 1953.
